Biography

Clayton Ray Bolick was born in 1938. Ray was the son of Harrison M. & Florida (Anderson) Bolick; he was the 5th out of 6 children. He was educated in Mount Ulla School, but he quit. His father passed away in March 1948. In the mid-1950s, Ray registered for the US Navy. He never served in a war, however.

Ray was married twice. His first marriage was to Peggy J. (Ballard) Moose around Aug 1966. However, their marriage lasted less than a year & they divorced on 15 May 1967 in Rowan County, NC. In October 1969 in York County, SC, he married his second wife, Martha E. Blackwelder. His first child was born in October 1971; on his & Martha's 2nd anniversary.

For about 10 years in the 1970s & 1980s, Ray & his family raised hogs. Ray worked for Duke Power for 20 years; from 1973 to 1993. He also raised a vegetable garden every year. Ray did all the pipe work on the house he & his family lived in for over 40 years.

Ray became very ill in early 2016. He was diagnosed with lung cancer. Later, in October 2016, Ray peacefully passed away at the Glen A. Kiser Hospice house in Salisbury, NC, surrounded by his family. He was cremated & on 13 October 2016, his ashes were interred in the Salisbury National Cemetery (annex cemetery) in Salisbury, NC.[1]

MT. ULLA — Clayton Ray Bolick, 78, of Mt. Ulla, peacefully passed away on October 3, 2016 at Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury.
Mr. Clayton was born on June 14, 1938, to the late Harrison and Florida Anderson Bolick in Rowan County. He proudly served in the US Navy and on October 22, 1969 married Martha Blackwelder. Clayton attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church and his spare time enjoyed gardening and playing golf. He also enjoyed spending time with his dogs, Tinkerbell.
In addition to his wife of 46 years, Martha Bolick, he is survived by a son, Randy Bolick of Mt. Ulla; daughter Anita Martinez (David) of Mt. Ulla; brother, Calvin Reid Bolick; sister in law, Rose Bolick of Salisbury; grandchildren, Taylor Anderson and Clayton Martinez, both of Mt. Ulla. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 3 sisters, Betty Jean Bolick, Alene Bolick, Hazel Mansella; brother, John Bolick; and his dog Nugget.
The family will receive friends at Ebenezer United Methodist Church (8425 NC-801 Mt. Ulla, NC 28125) from 2-3pm with a Celebration of Life following at 3 pm conducted by Rev. Mark McCracken with full military honors by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Clayton will be laid to rest at the Salisbury National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House (1229 Statesville Blvd. Salisbury, NC 28144) or to Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
