James was born about 1839. In 1851 he lived with parents at 2 Westbridge Cottages.[1] In 1859 James married Mary Ann Marshall and 1861 James was a police constable in Marylebone, although this seems to have been short-lived. In 1871 he was in Bermondsey as a bricklayer and in 1881 he was a bricklayer in Derbyshire leaving Mary Ann and family in Brook Street, Tavistock. In 1891 James was back in Tavistock. He died there in 1911. In later years he had become a stone mason. We may well wonder at his range of jobs.
