"He obtained his education, as did his brothers and sisters, in the subscription schools of those early days. He helped out on the family farm until he was 22 years old and decided to strike out on his own and earn some money working for neighboring farmers. In 1845, he was married to Eliza A Stephens, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Stephens. They farmed 160 acres adjoining that of father Henry (6) and after he died they bought the land from the Fulton heirs. Abraham served in the Civil War as a Captain in Co. F , 44th Indiana Infantry. He and his family were devout members of the Christian Church, his descendants continuing today as active members of Bethany Church. He was a Republican in politics. He and Eliza had 10 children."
