28 June 1904: Logansport Daily Reporter: JACOB BANTA, FARMER, DIEDFROM HIS INJURIES. Death Due to Concussion of the Brain Came This Morning at the St. Joseph's Hospital. Deceased Received Fatal Injuries in a Runaway Last Friday Morning. After eleven days of unconsciousness,Jacob Banta, the old and well known farmer of south of Logansport who was a victim of an exciting runaway on Burlington avenue Friday, June 17, died this morning shortly before noon of the injuries he received. Banta's demise took him from this earth with but little pain, and only a short time before death called him, he was conscious for the first time since he was injured. It may be remembered that Banta met with his fatal accident while coming to Logansport with Henry Yeakley, a neighbor and friend. The couple were riding on Yeakley's hay ladder. On Burlington avenue the team became frightened at a crowd of children who were playing in the street, and ran away, Banta lost his hold and fell out the rear end of thewagon, striking his head a terrible blow, and rendering him unconscious. Yeakley jumped just in time to keep from falling off, and thus he escaped injury. Mr. Banta was conveyed to the office of Dr. O'Leary on Fourth street and afterwards to the St. Joseph hospital, where he died this morning. The victim's injuries resulted in concussion of the brain, which was the direct cause of his demise. Tuesday, June 28, 1904 - Logansport Daily Reporter
