Biography

1776 Project
Lieutenant David Baird Jr. served with Monmouth County Militia, New Jersey Militia during the American Revolution.

Daughters of the American Revolution, DAR Genealogical Research Databases, database online, (http://www.dar.org/ : accessed 8 Feb 2018), "Record of David Baird", Ancestor # A004813.

David was born in 16 July 1754, to David Baird Sr and Sarah Compton.

He lived during the American Revolution, and was probably a Captain (Find a grave). The Official Register of the Officers and Men of New Jersey in the Revolutionary War confirms that he was a Captain by 1777 in Monmouth County Militia.[1] It is not clear, however, whether he was Captain of 1st or 2nd Regiment, Service records show that he served as a Lieutenant in Samuel Foreman's Regiment.[2] (2nd Regiment)

He Married 3 times, to Rebekah Ely, Lydia Tapscott, and Mary Edwards.

He had numerous children.

Capt David Baird Jr. was mentioned on a memorial in Old Tennent Churchyard, Tennent, Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States with a death date of 25 Dec 1839.[3]

Research Notes:

Note: There are three death dates listed in various references. December 24, 25 and, 26 of 1839.

Note: The death listed above is taken from the memorial stone inscription.

Note: December 26th, 1839 is listed in this strong reference and might refer to internment date. Further research is needed to confirm.

Note: This is rather curious, as we find his uncles, Richard and Joseph Compton, sons of Jacob and Elizabeth, witnessing the will of a man named Perrine, who faked his death and went to NY to join the British forces. His cousin, son of Richard above of Freehold had his land confiscated in January 3, 1779. They called him a fugitive and offender. This story is detailed in Comptonology Vol 2 No 6 Page 29. Also detailed there is that one of these Richards had a daughter Priscilla who married Ebenezar Murdock Hingston, who was from Ireland and recruited for the British in Monmouth County. I only include this info on his uncles and cousins to show the difficulties faced by members of the Monmouth Compton family, as some joined the British, and some fought with the American colonists.
