George Anderson was born about 1660 in Stafford County, Virginia. He served for some time as under sheriff for Sheriff Martin Scarlett. George is mentioned in a court proceeding on 12 June 1690 when Abraham Beckington complains against George Anderson [Undersheriff] for that said Anderson stands indebted…sum of five bushels of Indian corn and refuseth to pay…court orders the payment of corn or 200 pounds of tobacco.[1][2]
At some point, George marries Sarah Scarlett, daughter of Martin. The Overwharton Parish church was destroyed by fire in 1756, so records begin at that date.[3]
Both Martin and George renewed their oaths of office on 18 May 1693. Capt. Martin Scarlett…took the oath of a Justice of the Peace…and oath of high sheriff…George Anderson did this day come into court and after taking the oaths appointed by act of Parliament with the test did after take the oath of undersheriff for this county and Capt. George Mason became security with him to Capt. Martin Scarlet, high sheriff of this county, for the due performance of his office of undersheriff accordingly.[4]
George was still living in 1707.
