Biography

Jesse was born about 1754, probably in Cumberland County Virginia as that is where his parents lived at the time. His parents were James Anderson and Margaret Troys. [1]

About 1777 in Cumberland County, Jesse married Mary Holland.[citation needed] They were the parents of at least four children. These children were William [2], John, Lucy Wood [3] , and Nancy Russell.[4]

The family was residing in Littleton Parish of Cumberland County in 1782 when Jesse Holland, orphan of Charles Holland, was bound to Jesse Anderson. [5] Jesse is recorded in tax lists for Cumberland in 1784. [6] His vote was recorded in an election in 1789. [7]

Jesse was recorded in the 1810 census records for Cumberland County. His household included Mary and four children. [8]

In March of 1812 Jesse sold his interest in the landed estate of his father-in-law, James Holland, to John Anderson. [9] Since Mary had failed to sign along with Jesse on the March deed, a corrected deed was signed and recorded in August of 1812 from Jesse and Mary for her rights in her father's landed estate. [10]

In July of 1813, Jesse sold 26 acres of his home place to Maurice Langhorne. [11] In February of 1814, Jesse sold 12 acres of his home place to Charles Womack. [12] These sales appear to be an attempt to clear up some of his debt.
