Isaac Anderson was born in 1758 at Donegal, Ireland.[1] His parents are unproven, but currently a subject of research.[2] According to Isaac Anderson's biography, published in 1882, Isaac Anderson was the youngest of 13 children. His parents died when he was about twelve years old. He realized that he had a gift for mathematics, and began to study the profession of surveying.[3]
In 1774, at the age of 16, Isaac Anderson immigrated to the New World. He was fortunate that the captain allowed him to study nautical navigation with him on the journey from Donegal to America. He landed at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before the Revolutionary War. Interestingly, some of Isaac Anderson's elder siblings had already immigrated to the Virginia Colony, but he did not seek them out.[4]
When the American Revolutionary War began, Isaac Anderson enlisted. His first tour of duty as a private was under Colonel Morgan's Regiment and his first battle was Bemis Heights under General Gates.[5] Eventually, Isaac Anderson worked his way up the ranks and became a Lieutenant for the 8th Pennsylvania Regiment on the Continental Line.
In 1781, Isaac Anderson accompanied General George Rogers Clark on an expedition to the Falls of Ohio. At that time, he was a Lieutenant in Captain Shannon's Regiment. He kept a journal of this expedition that has been passed down through his family.[6]
Isaac Anderson migrated to Cincinnati Ohio in the winter of 1795/96. He purchased a lot in town from Joseph Moorhead, who had purchased the land when he was there with General St Clair`s Army.[7]
Isaac Anderson was an early resident of Butler County, Ohio.[8]
Isaac Anderson died at Butler County, Ohio in 1839.[9] He is buried at the Venice Cemetery in Ross, Butler County, Ohio.
Isaac Anderson's widow, Euphemia, collected a Revolutionary War pension based upon his service until her death in 1851.[10] Her pension number was W4628.
Isaac Anderson has numerous living descendants.[11] Many are members of the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution.
