Biography

When Joseph Amidon was born on August 14, 1741, in Oxford, Massachusetts [1] his father, Philip, was 33 and his mother, Submit, was 30.

He married Dorcas Carpenter on January 4, 1765, in Charlton City, Massachusetts [2]. He responded to the Lexington alarm in Capt. Samuel Curtis’ Company in 1775. [3] [4] [5]

They had four children and were in Charlton, Massachusetts in the 1800 census [6]. By 1803 five members of the family were living in Petersburgh, Rensselaer [7]. Joseph served in the NY Militia during the War of 1812[8]. Joseph was a bar keeper in E Postenkill, NY [9]. Joseph, Dorcus and three of the children were living in Sand Lake, NY in the 1820 census [10]. He died on May 14, 1821, in Troy, New York, having lived a long life of 79 years [11]. Joseph is buried in the Poestenkill Cem NY [12].
