Daniel Alvord was born in Northampton, Massachusetts, May 4, 1758, the first child of Mary (Hamilton) Alvord (1735-1794) and Elisha Alvord (1731-abt.1807).

During the American Revolutionary War, Daniel Alvord served, 1775-77, as a Private in Captain Jonathan Allen's Company, Colonel Jonathan Ward's Regiment. Daniel took place in the battle of Long Island. He was placed on the pension roll, 1818, of Georgetown, Madison County, NY [1].

On March 20, 1783, in Northampton, Daniel married Susanna Judd [2], daughter of William Judd and Susanna (Gilson) Judd. Susanna was born in Northampton on July 27, 1762 and died in Worthington, Massachusetts, April 15, 1795. They had 6 children:

  1. Samuel Alvord (1784-1872); married 1) Sep 1809 Sally Bates; 2) 20 Nov 1813 Ursula (Smith) Crowl
  2. Susan Alvord, b. 4 Apr (probably 1786); unmarried; d. 15 Sep 1805 @ Albany, New York
  3. Mary (Alvord) Underwood (1788-1843), b. 1 Aug 1788 @ Westhampton, Massachusetts; married Abishai Sabine Underwood
  4. Daniel Alvord (1790-1854), b. 19 Oct 1790 @ Westhampton, Massachusetts; married 8 Jan 1815 Pamelia Sackett
  5. Salome (Alvord; 1793-1861), b. 22 Feb 1793, probably at Lanesboro, Massachusetts; married Benjamin Clapp Simmons
  6. William Alvord (1795-1848)

Daniel married, secondly, on January 17, 1797, to Anna Tower, a daughter of Samuel Tower and Hannah (Collamore) Tower. Anna was born September 10, 1763 and died in De Ruyter, New York on July 3, 1848. They had 4 children, born in Georgetown, New York:

  1. Elisha Alvord, b. 27 Nov 1798; married 23 Jan 1835, Lockport, New York, Amanda Howd; no children; d. 22 Jan 1898, Lockport
  2. Job Alvord (1800-1870); married 1) Sukey Warren; 2) widow Susan Lang (Dean) Moseley
  3. Lucy Alvord (13 Feb 1802 - 4 May 1804)
  4. Hannah (Alvord) Rouse (1806-1847); married Daniel German Rouse

In 1808, Daniel Alvord was elected a justice in DeRuyter, New York, was called "Squire" Alvord and was recognized as a man of worth and integrity [3].

The family of Daniel Alvord was enumerated in the 1820 U.S. census in Georgetown, Madison County, New York [4], where they continued to reside in 1840 [5].

Daniel Alvord died June 20, 1847, in DeRuyter, Madison County, New York. He is buried in the Sheds Cemetery, where he shares a grave monument with his second wife, Anna Tower (1763-1848) who he married January 17, 1797 [6].

Researcher's Notes

Daniel is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as Ancestor #A002098. DAR records indicate that he was twice married, first to Susanna Judd and secondly to Anna Tower. Applications for membership in the Society have been made by the descendants of his sons Job Alvord, who married Suky Warren; Daniel Alvord, who married Pamelia Sackett; Samuel Alvord, who married Ursula Crowl; and of his daughters, Hannah Alvord, who married Daniel German Rouse; and Mary Alvord, who married Abisha Sabine Underwood. [7]
