During the French & Indian War, this Samuel Allyn served the British cause in its campaign for the relief of Fort William Henry, 1757 (French and Indian War Rolls, 1:197); he was promoted to ensign, 1769 (Conn. Col. Rec., 13: 239).
American Revolutionary War service: Captain Samuel Allyn, serving the Connecticut Colonial Militia, thus the cause of American independence from the British Empire, was killed Sept. 6, 1781, at Fort Griswold while defending the fort against British attack (Conn. Men in the Rev'n, 556, 577); [1][2] As per his DAR record A001808 he also supplied clothing for soldiers.[3]
His grave is in Wood Cemetery, Groton, New London County, Connecticut, USA [4].
