William was born in 1759. He passed away in 1806.

Revolutionary War Solder. Received bounty land in Wilkes County in 1784 for his service in the Continental Line in VA. According to Georgia Genealogical Magazine, William was married at least twice, and possibly three times. On 8/21/1782 he married Frankie (Frances) Rucker, and after her death, he married Nancy Shackelford. The name of his first wife is not known.

He died before June 12th, 1806, when his Will was recorded for probate. He named his wife, Nancy, and his minor children born by her as legatees, also "four of my children," to wit: James, Elijah, John, and George. William also bequeathed eighty dollars to his grandson "Edmon Alexander with what I have paid to his father", but he does not identify Edmon's father by name. He appointed Joseph Christler, his wife Nancy, and another son, Peter, as his executors.

On January 13, 1813, Nancy Alexander acknowledged receipt of $1,756.20 from Peter Alexander, executor of William Alexander in full of her distributive share of William Alexander's estate also in full of the distributive shares of Allen, Mordecai, Willis, Sally, Nancy, and William Alexander, legatees of William Alexander, Deceased.

Note: Gedcoms say that William Alexander is the son of James Alexander (b. 1722) and Elizabeth Reid (Reed) Alexander of Culpepper, Virginia, and the brother of George Alexander (b.1754. Culpepper VA) D.A.R. Patriot # A001155). No links to these families have been added by me, Terri Oguz, because I have not independently verified this information.
