Biography

Stephen Aldrich was born on August 4, 1747 at Smithfield, Providence, Rhode Island.[1] His parents were Sylvanus Aldrich and his wife Dorothy Smith. ([2] On May 27, 1767 he married Keziah King who was born August 4, 1745.[3] Sometime between 1800 and 1810 they removed to Southwick, Hampshire Massachusetts.[4] His wife, Keziah died in 1781.[5] He married a second time on September 29, 1782 to Jerusha Bartlett of Smithfield, Rhode Island[6] Stephen Aldrich died October 18, 1813 in Southwick, Massachusetts at the age of 65 years.[7]

Revolutionary War Veteran

The following is a quote from Massachusetts Society of the U. S. Sons of the American Revolution Membership Application, 1889-1970. The application is for Harold Jere Aldrich, National #72061, State #5863, and dated January 4, 1950. "Stephen Aldrich was a Private in Capt. Jos. Sprague's Company from Smithfield. Col. Chad Brown's regt. R.I.M., a days alarm service, signs receipt for wages for R. I. Expedition in August, list dated Smithfield, R. I., June 7, 1779. Military Census of R. I. taken in 1777 -- Stephen Aldrich is registered in Smithfield as between 16 and 50 years. Private, on roll of draft Aug. 1, 1778, Capt. Jos. Sprague's co. from Smithfield." Stephen was a Private in the Rhode Island Militia.[8]
