I have been researching my tree for about 15 years with an interest in tracing as many lines as possible back to the immigrant. I have discovered that most of us have been here since the Great Migration, including one who was in Jamestown (Stephen Hopkins) and six Mayflower families. I like to call us history adjacent because while many ancestors took part in historical events, their names don't appear in the history books, although there are a few famous cousins. I have encountered some brick walls but not many. My pet peeve is how obviously erroneous information is added to family trees which spreads to other trees like wildfire, and then picked up by AI as if it were true, and presented to me as a hint ... and I am paying for this.
