Biography

Simon Addis is a qualifying ancestor of the National Society of the Dames of the Court of Honor.

Captain Simon Addis served with 2nd New Jersey Regiment, Continental Army during the American Revolution.

My 6th Great Grandfather. His is the Revolutionary ancestor my family used to join DAR's General William Maxwell Chapter, Belvidere, New Jersey. - Fritts-340 28 Nov 2021.

Simon Addis was born on 29 December 1745 in Churchville, Bucks, Pennsylvania, son of Richard Walton Addis age 22 (1723–1749) and Maria Mary Wyckoff age 24 (1721–1747). ^[1]

Simon Addis served in the American Revolution for Pennsylvania: He as a Captain in the New Jersey Militia and also a Private, Lt and Ensign under Colonel John Neilson Neilson-436 (2nd New Jersey Regiment, Continental Army) and Captain William Williamson Williamson-2714 .

The DAR Patriot index lists three wives: 1) Eleanor ________ 2) Maria Van Cleef and 3) Nelly Van Voorhees. Children by Eleanor: Mary who m. David Nevins; John who m. Anna McConnell; Richard who m. Jemime Dehart; Sarah who m. Peter Pumyea. ^[2]

Simon (19) married Mariah Hollingshead (28) (born about 1736 in Burlington, New Jersey; daughter of Hugh Hollingshead and Anna (Eves) Hollingshead) in 1765 in Middlesex, Middlesex Co, New Jersey. Their son was Richard Addis (3 September 1766 – about 1830).

Simon (20) married Eleanor Vliet (22) (born on 20 April 1744 in Bucks Co, Pennsylvania) on 15 December 1766 in North Brunswick, Middlesex, New Jersey.

He died 22 June 1834 in North Brunswick Township, Middlesex, New Jersey.^[3]
