Asahel Adams was born Sept 13, 1754 at Canterbury, Connecticut, a son of Phineas Adams (1726-1779) and Lydia (Fitch) Adams (1736-1820).

Note: Whereas the Avery genealogy states that Asahel's mother was Susannah (Woodward), this is probably an error. The grave memorial page for Phinehas Adams clarifies that Susannah Woodward was Asahel's paternal grandmother.

American Revolutionary War service: Per the Groton Avery Clan, Asahel Adams " Enlisted Norwich, Conn in 1775, 7th Regt Continental Line May 5, 1777. Transferred to "The Guards" Apr 1, 1778 and served to close of war. Discharged May 5, 1781. He was With Washington at Valley Forge, crossing Delaware river and Trenton battle. O. Bur Miami Cem Liberty Twp. MI. "[1].

Asahel Adams married Olive Avery in 1779, with 9 children resulting:

  2. David Augustus Adams (1784-1855); married Nancy Tylee
  3. Asael Asahel Adams (1786-1852); married Lucy Mygatt

  5. Susan (Adams) Gates (1791-1871); married 1) John Patterson; 2) Warham Gates
  6. Mason Adams (1793-1813)
  7. Olive Adams (1795-1813)
  8. Jay Adams (1797-); married Sarah Simmons
  9. Adaline Adams (1799-); married George Hapgood

This family moved to Ohio in 1802.

Asahel Adams died May 25, 1821, at Girard, Ohio. His grave is in Girard Liberty Union Cemetery, Girard, Trumbull County, Ohio, USA [2].
