Biography

Joel was born in Wrentham, Province of Massachusetts Bay in 1756, the son of Peter Adams and his wife Esther (Ward) Adams.[1][2]

Joel was an early settler in Union, Maine, He helped to establish the settlement as a town

He married Jemima Robbins in what was then called the "Plantation of Sterlingtown", on the 10th of October in 1780. (And on October 20, 1786 the town was incorporated and named Union) The couple became the proud parents of ten children, all born in the new settlement:[2]

Joel and his wife Jemima ("Mima") became the main characters in Ben Ames Williams' historical novel "Come Spring", the fictionalized story of the establishment of a settlement in 1700s Maine.[15] He passed away on October 22 or 23, 1830[3] and is buried in the Common Cemetery in Union, Maine.[16]
