Samuel Adams was born in Canterbury, Windham, Connecticut on 28 Sep 1744, son of Joseph Adams and Dorotha Hyde.

He married on 05 Nov 1772 in Killingly, Windham, Connecticut to Rachel Burrell (spelled Burrill on FAG).
They had 17 children. [both facts needs source]
He and Rachel lived in Poultney, Vermont for a while, then migrated to Allegany County. Wellsville, New York with Rachel's sister Ester and her husband, Nathaniel Dyke. They settled a farm, called "Deer Lick Farm by the Indians because of the salt on the ground at that place."
Samuel served in the Revolutionary War along with his brothers Abner and Benjamin.
He died 27 July 1821 in Elm Valley, Allegany New York and was buried in Elm Valley (Andover), Allegany, New York, United States of America, Dyke-Cole Cemetery.
