Biography

Private Abraham Abshire served with Bedford County Militia, Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.

Abraham was born about 1748. He was the son of Peter Abshire and Eva Maria Lodewick. He passed away in 1842. ^[1]

Franklin County Virginia 1786-1986, A Bicentennial History, gives the following account of Abraham Abshire's Revolutionary War service: "Abraham Abshire served his tour of duty within the state of Virginia. Born in 1763, Abshire was sixteen years old when he was called into Captain Moses Greer's company of Bedford County militia in 1779 ^[2] and marched to protect the state's lead mines in present-day Wythe County. Even before that tour, he had served at least one other against the loyalists in the nearby mountains; Abshire went on several similar expeditions while in service. In 1780 or 1781 he marched with Greer's company to Petersburg, probably to guard military supplies there. He was pensioned in 1832 and died on 28 July 1842."
