P-336040 Abner was a blacksmith. He and Ruth resided in Andover until about 1797. On 18 August 1797, Abner Abbott, blacksmith of Andover with wife Ruth, in consideration of $150, conveyed to Joseph Stevens, Jr., trader of Andover, a tract of land of about 55 poles. On 1 March 1797, Abner Abbott, blacksmith of Andover, conveyed to his “honored father” Joseph Holt, in consideration of $100, the dwelling house in which Abner now lives with the land on which it stands.[8]
Abner Abbott of Albany, Maine provided a statement related to his pension application on 8 April 1818. He testified that he enlisted in the military in December 1775 as a private in the Regiment of Enoch Paris in General Sullivan’s Brigade in New Hampshire. He served until November 1776. On 14 June 1820, he provided additional information on his circumstances. He listed his possessions as one wooden clock, one chest with drawers, one chest, two tables, six poor chairs, one anvil, one bellows, one brick horn, one vise, two sledges, two hammers, four nail molds, one shoe hammer with pincers, and one ox sling. He was a blacksmith by trade but unable to work due to rheumatic complaints and old age. His household was himself, wife Dorcas aged 50 years, and daughter Margaret aged 7 years. Abner was awarded a pension and his widow Dorcas later received a pension.[9]
Abner was the son of Stephen Abbott of Andover, Essex County, Massachusetts and Mary Abbott of Andover, Essex County, Massachusetts. Mary's maiden name was Abbott and she married an Abbott. Mary and Stephen were married on 24 May 1743 in Andover, Essex County, Massachusetts. Stephen was Mary's second marriage. Mary and Stephen had eleven children. They were: Mary Abbott was born on 08 March 1744; Deborah Abbott was born on 13 October 1745; Sarah Abbott was born on 01 August 1747; General Stephen Abbott was born on 01 August 1749; Anna Abbott was born on 26 August 1751; Hannah Abbott was born on 10 August 1753; George Abbott was born on 13 June 1756; Dorcas Abbott was born on 23 September 1758; Abner Abbott was born on 29 January 1761; Samuel Abbott was born on 27 April 1763; and Elizabeth Abbott was born on 22 October 1766. All the children were born in Andover, Essex County, Massachusetts.
Abner married Ruth Holt on 29 January 1784 in Andover, Essex County, Massachusetts. Ruth and Abner had seven Children. They were: Ruth Abbott (Abbot) was born on 26 July 1785; Sarah Abbott (Abbot) was born on 11 July 1787; Obed Abbott (Abbot) was born on 14 September 1789; Stephen Abbott (Abbot) was born on 01 October 1792; Mary Abbott (Abbot) was born on 12 May 1797; and Joseph Abbott (Abbot) was born on 22 February 1804. All the children were born in Albany, Oxford County, Maine.
After Ruth's death, Abner had a second marriage to Dorcas J. Nason.[10]
