MOSES ABBOTT, b. at Bedford, 13 Jan 1727/8 son of Obediah Abbott and Elizabeth Tarbell;[1] d. at Bedford, 22 Nov 1809;[2][3] m. at Charlestown, 15 Apr 1755,[4] MARY HILL, b. at Bedford, 27 Jul 1734[5] daughter of Jonathan and Abigail (-) Hill;[6] Mary d. at Bedford, 5 Sep 1801.[7] Moses m. 2nd at Ashby, 8 Feb 1803,[8] SARAH HAPGOOD who was not identified.
Moses Abbott and Mary Hill resided in Beford, Massachusetts where they kept a farm. Moses was active in town affairs. He was a member of the “Committee of Inspection” in 1775, and held posts of tythingman, constable, and fence viewer.[9][10]
During the Revolutionary War, Moses served as First Lieutenant and commanded a company of Minute Men that marched at the alarm from Bedford on 19 April 1775. The company was engaged at the Battle of Concord.[11][12]
In 1790, the household of Moses Abbott was five persons at Bedford: two males 16 and over, one male under 16, and two females.[13] Four persons were enumerated in 1800: one male 45 and over, one female 45 and over, and two males under 10.[14]
In his will written 17 January 1809 (proved 12 April 1810), Moses Abbott gentleman of Bedford bequeathed to beloved wife Sarah all the property she brought to the marriage. She also rec receives a suit of mourning, one cow, and the use and improvement of one-third of the real estate in Bedford while she is a widow. Son Jeremiah Abbott receives the wearing apparel. Grandson John Abbott receives the large brass kettle, grandson Moses Abbott, the silver watch, and grandson Benjamin Abbott Webber, one cow. Daughter Mary Webber receives all the movable estate not otherwise disposed of, three hundred and eight dollars, and one-half of the pew in the Bedford meeting house. The remaining of the estate is to be distributed in seventh parts with four-sevenths to daughter Mary Webber, one-seventh to grandson John Abbott, two-sevenths to grandson Moses Abbott, and two-sevenths to grandson Oliver Reed Abbott. Son-in-law William Webber was named executor. The 46-acre homestead was valued at $1,304.50 with total real estate of $1,931 and personal estate was $715.33.[15]
Moses Abbott and Mary Hill were parents of six children born at Bedford.

ii JOHN ABBOTT, b. 29 May 1759; d. at Ashby, 16 Jul 1805; m. at Billerica, 28 Nov 1782, MARTHA WHITING, b. at Billerica, 3 Jul 1762 daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Stevens) Whiting; Martha d. at Concord, MA, 27 May 1813. Martha married Jonas Lee on 9 Aug 1808.
iii MOSES ABBOTT, b. 21 Sep 1761; d. at Bedford, 19 Feb 1802; m. at Bedford, 1 Dec 1786, ALICE STEARNS, b. at Bedford, 13 Aug 1764 daughter of Edward and Lucy (Wyman) Stearns. Alice married Stephen Lane on 1 May 1806.
iv JEREMIAH ABBOTT, b. 23 Nov 1763; m. at Wilmington, 26 Nov 1789, MARTHA “PATTY” JAQUITH, b. at Wilmington, 13 Sep 1768 daughter of Samuel and Martha (Richardson) Jaquith. Jeremiah and Patty were living in Temple, ME in 1850. Their daughter Martha Abbott Mitchell was also in Temple in 1850.
