Biography

AMOS ABBOT, born at Concord, New Hampshire. 15 Jul 1754 son of Amos Abbott and Rebecca Abbot;[1] Amos died at Concord 11 Oct 1834;[2][3] married at Boscawen, 9 Dec 1804,[4] JUDITH MORSE, born at Newbury, 1 Mar 1766[5] daughter of Moses Morse and Sarah Hale;[6] Judith died at Concord, 12 Jul 1843.[7]

Amos and Judith resided in Concord where Amos was a farmer. The family resided on the homestead property of Amos’s father. Amos was noted for his skill in managing bees.[8]

Amos Abbot served several enlistments during the Revolution and later received a pension based on his service making application on 28 August 1832. His first enlistment was a Cambridge in April 1775 in the company of Capt. Joshua Abbot in Col. Stark’s regiment with service of six months. In December 1775, he enlisted from Concord in the company of Capt. Benjamin Emery with service of eight weeks. He next enlisted in December 1776 in the company of Capt. Benjamin Sias of Col. Gilman’s regiment and during this term troops were at Peekskill on the Hudson River. In September 1777, he again enlisted from Concord in the company of Capt. Joshua Abbot for one month and in August 1778 in the company of Capt. Ebenezer Webster in Gen. Whipple’s brigade for one month. During service, he was a private and later promoted to corporal. His total time of service was thirteen months.[9][10][11][12][13][14][15]

Probate

Amos Abbot wrote his will 23 February 1830. He bequeathed to his wife Judith his clock and all the household furnishings except two beds. Judith also receives the income from one-third part of the farm and use of half the dwelling house. Daughter Sarah Hale Abbot receives $300 to be paid within one year of his death. Sons John Abbot and Simeon Abbot receive all the real estate. Sons John and Simeon are named executors.[16]

i JOHN ABBOT, b. at Concord, 15 Nov 1805;[17] d. at Concord, 18 Mar 1886;[18] m. at Warner, 12 Nov 1856, HANNAH MATILDA BROOKS, b. at Charlestown, MA, 14 Mar 1828 daughter of Samuel Brooks; Hannah Matilda d. at Concord, 22 Apr 1898. John and Matilda were parents of three children: Frances Matilda Abbott, John Boynton Abbott, and Walter Brooks Abbott.

ii SIMEON ABBOT, b. at Concord, 3 Aug 1807;[19] d. at Concord, 22 Feb 1895;[20] m. 8 Feb 1837, MARY FARNUM, b. 25 Jun 1814 daughter of Simeon and Mary (Smith) Farnum; Mary d. 26 Apr 1898.

iii SARAH HALE ABBOT, b. at Concord, 27 Jun 1809;[21] d. 8 Sep 1884;[22] m. 18 Dec 1839, her fourth cousin, DAVID ABBOTT, b. 12 Jul 1809 son of Nathan and Rhoda (Brickett) Abbott; David d. at Concord, 12 Apr 1882.
