1. VA: Pittsylvania County, Virginia, Will Book 11/449; Will of Thomas Wright, dated 18 July 1804; probated 18 November 1818.[1]

"In the name of Good Amen: I Thomas Wright of the Parish of Camden & County of Pittsylvania & State of Virginia being sick and weak in body, but of sound mind & memory do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in the following manner: To Wit: I Give my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Redeemer hoping this his metenians dath & passion to Receive free pardon for all my sins & my body to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned & all my Worldy Estate Which is has pleased God to bless me with to be disposed of in the manner following.

"First: I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Hannah Wright all my personal estate consisting of horses, cattle, hogs, house-hold furniture, & plantation utensils together with the land whereon I now live. Beginning at the white oak on Sandy River adjoining William Bates land; thence a line chopped off by William Astin & Daniel Price to a corner oak; thence down ? branch to the school house branch; thence and hence 0094(021105)24. up said branch to Thomas Wright's spring then up the same to the head there of; thence a straight course to a path then down said path near the mouth of land; thench down a bottom to the spring where Daniel Wright now lives; thence down the same to the main fork and down the same to Sandy River; thence down said river to the beginning during her natural live and after her death to be disposed int the manner hereafter mentioned.

"Item: I give unto my son Thomas Wright a tract of land lying in the fork of the Mill Creek beginning at a poplar on the north fork of Mil Creek; thence with James Wilson's line to a corner pine; thence with Bachelor's Hall tract across a small branch to the post oak; thence a straight course to the aforesaid branch; thence down the same to the aforementioned poplar at the beginning to him and his heirs forever.

"Item: I give nto my son John Wright the tract of land whereon he now lives at the red oak; thence with George Sutherlin, decd. line along the same to a branch; thence down said branch to white oak; thence with Peter Wilson's lines to pointers north one hundred and twenty-two poles to a pine in Jacob Dean's lines; thence along the same seventy six degrees west, fifteen poles to the pine tree north, fifteen degrees east to a white oak on the head of a branch north forty-one and a half degrees west, thirty-six poles to said Sutherlin's corner red oak to him and his heirs forever.

"Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Earp, wife of Abednigo Earp, two dolls to her and her heirs forever.

"Item: I give and bequeath unto my son, Daniel M. Wright a part of a tract of land beginning at a white oak on John Wright's line; thence a straight line to a poplar on the Mill Creek where Thomas Wright's land began; thence up said branch to Bachelor's Hall line; thence with the same to Sutherlin's corner red oak; thence with the same to John Wright's line; thence down a branch to a white oak to beginning to him and his heirs forever.

"Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Sally Watts, wife of Joshua Watts, the priviledge of living on the land where they now live agreeable to the bounds as mentioned and to be laid off hereafter as long as they man choose to live thereon or until the same may be sold by Daniel Wright and John Wright; it being part of the land willed to the said Daniel & John at which time the said John & Daniel is to pay the sum of five pounds each to the said Sally Watts or her heirs.

"Item: I give to my son, James Wright, that tract of land whereon Thomas Wright lives beginning at a white oak in the head of a hollar; thence down the same to the school house branch; thence down said branch to a spring branch where Thomas Wright now lives; thence up the same to said spring ; thence straight to the path as aforesaid; thence down the same to the land aforesaid and thence down the spring branch where Daniel Wright now lives ; thence down said branch to the fork; thence up said main fork to where it intersects with George Sutherlin's line ; thence with his line to the corner red oak; thence a straight course to a white oak to the beginning to him and his heirs forever.

"Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Nancy Wright, one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever.

"Item: I give and bequeath the land whereon I now live after the death of my wife with the priviledge of living on said tract of land; whenever he (who is this he???) comes of age and also all estate which my wife leaves behind at her decease to dispose of at his discretion and lastly, I do here appoint my loving wife Hannah Wright and George Adams the whole and sole executors of this my Last Will and Testament, revoking and annulling all other wills made by me in witness whereof; I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Eighteenth day of July 1804.
