Russell Wilhelm was born about 1892. He was the son of Daniel Wilhelm and Eva Sherk. [1] The family change the name to Williams at the beginning of the First World War.
Russell Williams enlisted in February 1916 in the 111th Battalion, in which he was promoted to Sergeant and then received his commission shortly before going overseas in August. He joined the 19th Battalion at the front in October. He was appointed Adjutant to his battalion. After going through the battle of Vimy Ridge, he fell a month later, being instantly killed by a shell at Fresnoy in an attack on the enemy's trenches on May 9, 1917 He won the Croix de Guerre.
He was buried in 1917 at Ecoivres Military Cemetery in France [2]
