Biography

Sarah was born in Preston City, New London, Connecticut on 30 Sep 1738 to Captain Moses Tyler and Mary Belcher.^[1] She named a son Moses and her grandson (of Shubal Smith) would be named Moses Tyler Smith, apparently also in the Captain's honor.

Her marriage to Seth Smith on 17 Apr 1755 appears in the Connecticut Vital Records apparently for Stonington^[2] but another entry appears for the same couple on the same date in Griswold near Preston about 15 miles away.^[3] The second entry is a compilation, not a primary record but the first record is indexed as "Stonington" without that location appearing on the actual record data as transcribed, so the location should be considered uncertain.

She passed away at age 89 on 17 Mar 1827 in ^[4]

A picture of her headstone is on FindaGrave with the inscription "In memory of Mrs. Sarah Relict of Mr. Seth Smith who died March 26, 1827 aged 89"^[5]
