In 1760, George and his 4 brothers, James, William, John, and Caufield, came to Rockbridge County, Virginia. His brother John was killed in battle on 25 Apr 1778. Caufield was taken prisoner but released after the surrender of Cornwallis. William is said to have married Janet Paul, the sister of John Paul Jones (John was a Paul and added the surname of his foster father). The brothers settled in the valley at the head of Cedar Creek.
George served in the Virginia Militia of the Continental Forces during the American Revolution. He is listed in the Daughters of the American Revolution books as a Private (1777-79) under Capts. Joseph Crockett, William Moseley, and Charles Fleming, Cols. William Russell, Holt Richerson, and William Heth.
George married Letitia "Letty".
