Biography

Dorothy was born in 1921 in Clay Center, Nebraska.

In 1939, Dorothy married Harold Haberman. They had at least one child.

In 1946, Harold began business as an electrical contractor. His shop was located in the Haberman Produce building owned by his brother, John. In 1952, Harold purchased the produce portion of his brother's business but also continued his electrical contracting work.

In 1954, Harold and Dorothy received a Certificate of Merit from the Nebraska Butter Institute for a batch of their butter.

In 1964, they closed Haberman Produce and took jobs at Sutton Public School. Harold was their custodian and Dorothy their bookkeeper.

In 1994, Harold passed away in Sutton. In 2012, Dorothy passed away in Harvard.

Habermans Produce Awarded Certificate of Merit for 1953—

Harold and Dorothy Haberman of Sutton were honored last week when they received notice that the cream station they operate in Sutton, Habermans Produce, had been selected to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Nebraska Butter Institute.

The award is given only to stations meeting the highest standards in cleanliness, efficiency and quality of products handled.

According to the certificate, Habermans achieved a score of 96.25 per cent in the ratings, leading to the award and to the commendation from the Institute for proficiency in the operation of the Haberman cream buying station during 1953.

Dorothy H. (Oxley) Haberman, 90, of Sutton, died Tuesday, January 17, 2012.

Dorothy was born April 25, 1921, to Charles and Marie (Bruning) Oxley. She received her education in Clay Center, NE. On July 7, 1939, she married Harold Haberman in Sutton, NE and to this union one daughter was born. They resided in Western Nebraska for a short time before making their home in Sutton. She and Harold owned and operated Haberman Produce in Sutton for many years. In 1964, she began her employment with Sutton Public Schools as the bookkeeper for the lunch program. After her retirement, she and her husband spent a lot of time traveling. In February 2007, she moved to the Harvard Rest Haven where she had resided since.

She was a member of the Federated Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed music, teaching herself to play the pump organ as a child and singing in the church choir.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Keith Sandall of Lincoln, NE; grandsons, Brian and wife Tiffany Sandall of Blair, NE; Darrel and wife Sharon Sandall of Pendleton, IN; 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; brother, Marvin Oxley and sister, Maudie Zajic.
