Philip Noel (Nowell) was born in Trinity, Jersey.[1][2][3]

He was the son of Michael Noel and Mary Lawrence.[3]

He might have been born about 1645. This estimate makes him about 30 years old at death.

Philip was the brother of John Noel and Richard Noel.[2][3]

Philip drowned at sea off the coast of New England 15 Nov 1675. He was aboard a vessel commanded by Habbacuck Turner, returning to Salem from France.[1][4][5][6]

He died intestate and Habbackuck Turner was appointed administrator of his estate 21:10:1675. Philip’s attorney William Dicer also petitioned for administration.[6]

His brothers John Noel and Richard Noel of Trinity, Isle of Jersey sent a letter of attorney claiming they were his legal heirs that he had no heirs in America. The brothers were the sons of Michael Noel and Mary Lawrence.[3]

Research Notes

He might be related to Robert Nowell (abt.1646-abt.1691), a shipwright, who lived in Salem at the time of Philip’s death.

Konig notes that Philip Nowell (or Noel) was a merchant lost at sea in 1675 en route to France. (George F Dow, ed., The Probate Records of Essex County, Massachusetts, 3:39-41).
