Obituary: Robert Thomas "Buddy" Martin was a wonderful husband, father and friend in addition to a significant creative force in Memphis. As a prominent architect, he designed Eudora Church, Memphis Funeral Home and many other Memphis landmarks. He worked with Clarence Saunders in developing the "Keydoozle", which was the first automated self service grocery. Mr. Martin was a member and deacon at Eudora Baptist Church where he sponsored Laotian families as they became acquainted with life in America. In keeping with his patriotism, he and Henry Loeb created "Memphians for America", an organization that sold flags to promote their love of this country. He created many wonderful things including boats, furniture, guns and tobacco pipes. Elvis was so enamored with one of his pipes that it was given to him (Elvis) as a gift. Mr. Martin is survived by his son, Brussel Martin, and daughter, Elizabeth Martin of Memphis; a sister, Mrs. G.L. Morris of McCrory, AR, and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Martin and son Thomas Martin. Burial at Augusta Memorial Park at Augusta, AR. Published in The Commercial Appeal, Friday, April 1, 2005
