Biography

William was born about 1849. He is the son of John Jones and Emily Sims.

Research Notes

Burial card shows place of residence at time of death as being Alto, in Habersham and Banks Counties, but his obituary (p. 5) in the Augusta Chronicle says that he died in Gainesville, which is about 20 miles from Alto. The separate funeral notice (p. 4) in the Chronicle lists "Alco, Ga." as the place of death.

Funeral of W. H. Jones To Be Held This Morning

Mr. William H. Jones died at Gainesville, Thursday, after an extended illness. The remains will be brought to Augusta for funeral and interment. The funeral services will be conducted from the City Cemetery Chapel this morning at 11 o'clock, Rev. A. M. Pierce officiating. he deceased is survived by his mother, one sister and two brothers. Mr. Marion Jones, one of the brothers is a resident of Augusta. The pallbearers for the funeral will be Messrs. T. T Hammond, George Twiggs, J. W. Ussery, W. M. Allen and A. P. Cary.
