Biography

On April 28, 1873, in the picturesque state of Georgia, Homer Harlen Harris was born into the loving embrace of his parents, William Thomas Harris and Mary Margaret (Queen) Harris. Little did anyone know that this humble beginning would set the stage for a life filled with dedication and service to his community.

In the early years of his life, young Homer lived in Coxes, Cobb County, Georgia, as recorded in the 1880 census. These early experiences surely laid the foundation for the character and values that would define him in the years to come.

The year 1898 marked a significant turning point in Homer's life when he relocated to Lansburg, Nevada County, Arkansas. It was here, on November 9, 1898, that he exchanged vows with Bettie Leola Bullock, embarking on a lifelong journey together as husband and wife.

By 1910, Homer had established his home on Belton Road in Redland Township, Hempstead County, Arkansas. He was not only a homeowner, but also a farmer and school teacher at the local common school. His commitment to education and his community shone brightly during this period.

A decade later, in 1920, Homer Harris continued to call Redland Township his home. He balanced his life as a dedicated farmer and esteemed school teacher, making a lasting impact on the lives of many young students in his community.

As the years passed and the world changed around him, Homer remained rooted in Redland Township. The 1930 census recorded him as a farmer, a testament to his unwavering work ethic and commitment to providing for his family and community.

Tragically, on October 20, 1930, Homer Harlen Harris passed away at his home in Belton, Hempstead County, Arkansas, after a prolonged illness he faced with courage. His passing marked the end of a life dedicated to education and public service. He had served as a school teacher, county examiner, and county tax assessor, earning him recognition and respect throughout the county.

Homer was widely known and deeply respected, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those he encountered during his lifetime. His final resting place is at Merrell Cemetery in Hempstead County, Arkansas, a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to his community, leaving a legacy of service, education, and commitment that continues to inspire and uplift generations to this day.
