Leonard Frey was born towards the middle of the 18th century, served in the Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution. He was a farmer and had a 117 acre farm near Lowhill, PA (Northampton Co, subsequently changed to Lehigh Co.), and lived in there throughout his life. One of his sons, John, is said to have emigrated to the west (Ohio?) at some point, and his son Peter inherited the family farm, which was subsequently passed on to his own son Peter, who was said to be still living on the farm in 1914 in a published history of Lehigh Co.[1] One history of the Weissenberg Union Church lists Leonard as one of the first settlers in the town[2]
Birth
Some records indicate his birthdate as definitively 1749, others list 1750 as an approximate date. An 1884 genealogical summary of the "Fry" family in Lowhill township lists "Leonard Frey" as being a native of Germany.[3][4]
Leonard and Catherina baptised their children at the Union Reformed Church (Schloss's Church) in Unionville, North Whitehall. Their first child Maria Catharine was born 8 Months 17 days after the wedding.

Revolutionary War
Leonard was a soldier in the American Revolution:
In 1778, as cited by the Daughters of the American Revolution[14], he is included in the General Muster Roll of the 3rd Battalion of the Northampton County Militia (Colonel Michael POBST), listed as private 7th class in 4th Company under captain John HORNER .(A Michael Frey, presumably his older brother, is listed as Private 5th Class in the same Company).
Subsequently, he is included in the General Muster Roll of the 6th Batallion in 1782 (Colonel Henry GEIGER, Major Freidrich Sagler), 4th Company, 7th Class
Sponsoring Baptisms
Leonard sponsored the following baptisms:
Maria Catharine HERTER born on June 23, 1771. Parents: John Martin HERTER and Christina Margaret. Baptized June 30, 1771. Sponsors: Peter Maurer, Gertrude Herter, Leonard Frey (Cath. Salem)[15] -- Note, this is before the marriage date of Catherine and Leonard, and in the Church Records it seems to be that the last name of a female sponsor is only given if she is still single, or if she is sponsoring alone (perhaps the husband was not in church that day, travelling, sick, at war, etc) Thus, this record may be a reference to a different Catherine than the one Leonard Married, or "Salem" might be her middle name. There are several questions here, and perhaps no real answer. However, the subsequent records are quite clearly her
(Neice) Maria Catharina Kohler (Daughter of Maria Elisabeth (Frey) and Jacob Kohler[16]
(Nephew) Peter FREY on May 04, 1784. Parents: Michael FREY and Barbara. Baptized May 31, 1784. Sponsors: Leonard Frey, Catharine[17]
(Nephew) Jacob SCHNECK on September 10, 1789. Parents: Peter SCHNECK and Magdalene. Baptized October 04, 1789. Sponsors: Leonard Frey, Catharine[18]
Death
Leonard's will was filed probate 17 March 1815, with Peter Meyer of Lynn Twp, and Jacob Saeger of Northwhitehall Twp (both named as yeomen) paying $400.00 to the court[19]
