P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there. They make it easy to copy full references to the required sources. Please try to add locations to your profiles as well, those are critical for others to compare and match the profiles to their data.

Good morning Michel,

I am very happy to to be part of the WikiTree project! and, yes, I have a question. I have done my own research on different branches of my family tree (and my father and grandfather before me) that resulted in bios for some individuals and some histories of a branch of the family, for others, that always includes all sources. Is there a way to load these documents (word or PDF). Part of the info I loaded may be found at the web site of Genealogia Familiar. This site have dedicated people that build the Argentinian tree and I have collaborated with them, but they always have the last word, which makes this site highly reliable as a source. The other site for Argentina, Familias Argentinas, has also a large amount of the info I posted to WikeTree but not all of it (I include the links below) Other sites, like familysearch.org, have a lot but anyone may change things, what makes this sources a bit less reliable.

https://genealogiafamiliar.net/ https://www.genealogiafamiliar.net/fan.php?personID=I283981&tree=BVCZ&parentset=0&generations=8 https://www.familias-argentinas.com.ar/detalle-cortesia.php?id=194954&matrimonio=&apellido=Zuvir%C3%ADaPosse

Aside from the documents I have, I will try when I have a bit of time to add Genealogia Familiar as a source for profiles and I will check also if I could add some more locations, but I believe that I have provided many.

I am looking forward to hearing from you, thank you again for your kind message

Martin

Hey Martin,

I am no expert on Argentina. In general here on WikiTree, you can use any reliable source as a source. The general idea is that each area and time period has its own trustworthy sources.

The website you link to reminds me of Geneanet, a popular one in Europe. I do however not see any sources mentioned on the fan chart, nor the detail page. That makes it really hard to judge if this would be an external family tree (non-trusted source) or a real source.

WikiTree has regional projects to help in the work. For Latin America there is one project. I really enjoy being a member of my own regional project, and can only advice to have a chat with the WikiTree project for Latin America. I am sure they will welcome you and your experience.

On 'loading the documents': you can upload documents, but only images are really viewable on the page itself. Some help can be found on this page.

Please let me know if I am clear enough.

Hi Michel,

https://www.genealogiafamiliar.net/fan.php?personID=I283981&tree=BVCZ&parentset=0&generations=8

If you go to the fan chart and click on an individual you may find the sources at the bottom (under "Fuentes" in Spanish) In the example below I just copied the sources for Juana Tomasa Zabaleta Ruiz Huidobro on this fan chart (I entered this person on my WikiTree as Juana Tomasa Zavaleta Ruiz Huidobro and I have better sources than these ones but this is just an example)

[S84] Castillo Illingworth, Santiago, Castillo Illingworth, Santiago, (josancas53(AT)yahoo.com.ar), https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-D1X9-V95?.

[s1] Medrano Balcarce, Juan Manuel, Medrano Balcarce, Juan Manuel, (jmedrano76(AT)hotmail.com).

[s1] Medrano Balcarce, Juan Manuel, Medrano Balcarce, Juan Manuel, (jmedrano76(AT)hotmail.com), https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6LNS-J7K?.

[S892] Augier, Martin Javier, Augier, Martin Javier, [email address removed] .

[S1147] Family Search, Family Search, (www.familysearch.org), https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6LNS-VMC?i=95&wc=M6J7-J68%3A257632801%2C257883401%2C258150301%3Fcc%3D1974199&cc=1974199.

I will be happy to be part of the Latin America project but first I have to take care of my own tree already loaded to WikiTree: provide sources, complete locations when possible and upload documents. I will be doing these things next whenever I have time.

Martin

Hey Martin,

Please do not publish any email addresses. Those will be scavenged and used for spam or worse. You can edit your comment and remove them.

The links to Familysearch are ok. Better is to have them complete. If you click the 'Information' tab in FamilySearch, you will find a reference to the source. A reference to a source will tell the user which book, page and where to find it. In the format you showed here, someone would have to search for those names, try to contact them, then try if they have copy of that book.

So for S1: "Argentina, Tucumán, registros parroquiales, 1727-1955," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-6LNS-J7K?cc=1974199&wc=M6J7-J68%3A257632801%2C257883401%2C258150301 : 19 May 2016), San Miguel de Tucumán > Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación > Matrimonios 1783-1857 > image 26 of 601; parroquias Católicas, Tucumán (Catholic Church parishes, Tucumán).

That holds all the information someone would need to find the actual original.

The Latin America project can probably help you in more detail.

I hope this helps, Michel

Hey Michel,

Thank you for your guidance on this, it is much appreciated and very helpful. My WikiTree in nearly the same to the one at familysearch.org: I will keep your example on the desired type of reference and try to avoid to provide any email addresses. It is great that I counted with your advice before and not after doing this!

Have a great day!

Martin

Hello Martin,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are usually shared by many descendants, collaborating with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic. Review the project pages to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Can't find what you're looking for? Let me know, and I can make some suggestions! :-)

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Hello Ginny,

Thanks for the kind message and suggestions. I will use the list you recommended and follow your suggestions.

Best regards,
