Biography

Frances Cott lived in Appalachia, in New York.

John was born in 1903. He is the son of John Cott and Lizzy McCarty.

In the 1910 census, J Francis is a 7-year old living in Elkland Township, Sullivan, PA with his parents, John and Lizzie, and his baby brother Worth. ^[1]

By the 1920 census, the family has moved to Caneadea, Allegany, NY where his father John is a farmer. ^[2]

In 1925, there was a NY State census where John is listed as the 18-year old son of John Cott. ^[3]

In 1927, he married Ester Olivia Haynes, b. 27 Dec 1903, daughter of Eben Haynes and Ethel Miller Haynes, ^[4] and they had two sons, J. Bernard b. 8 Sep 1930 and Wendell b. 15 Jan 1933.

He passed away in 1938. ^[5]

Notes

Francis was a 1927 graduate of Houghton College. He was principal of the high school in Scio, New York from 1927 to 1934. He later ran a trucking line between Buffalo and Wellsville, New York.

Ester was a 1925 graduate of Houghton College. She taught high school at Buffalo, New York, 1925-1927, and taught high school in Scio, New York from 1927-1930. From 1938 to 1957, she taught at Scio, New York Central School.

In 1957, Ester was living in Wellsville, New York.
