Colonel Hon. Richard Coote was born in February 1643. He was the son of Charles Coote, 1st Earl of Mountrath and Jane (Hannay) Reading.
30 Jul 1660, appointed, jointly with his step-brother, Charles, for life, Collector and Register-General for all taxes, rents, and arrears cessed in Thomand and Connaught. In 1673 he was granted under the Acts of Settlement, 23,000 acres in Dublin, Meath, Kildare, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick, Kerry and Roscommon, under the Acts of Settlement. His estate was sequestered under the Act of Attainder in 1689.
He held the office of Commissioner of Appeals in 1675. He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of County Kilkenny in 1675. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Kilkenny between October 1692 and 5 September 1693. He lived at Tullaghmain, County Kilkenny, Ireland.[1]
Richard married Penelope Hill, daughter of Rt. Hon. Arthur Hill, of Hillsborough, County Down, and had by her a son, Charles Coote, baptized 1671, died young, and four daughters, of whom Rose, was the first wife of Charles, Viscount Blesington; and Jane, first married to Sir Eilliam Evans of Kilcreene near Klikenny.[2][3]
He died in 1700.
