Biography

Lavina Harris Allen was born at Helston in 1841[1].

She was living with her mother Mary in 1851[2]. She was still living with her family in 1861[3].

She married George Lory at Wendron on the 25th of April 1861[4][5].

In 1871 Lavinia lived with George Lory at Helston[6].

At some point between 1871 and 1881 George appears to have left the family. The 1881 census records Lavinia with her children still at Helston[7]. She was listed as "married" but George isn't present. An article in the Australian papers describes the situation[8]; apparently George Lory left the family in 1880 and moved to New Zealand; after a property dispute he was found living at Launceston in Tasmania in 1882 but by this time Lavinia had remarried.

She remarried in 1881[9].

In 1891 she lived at Hackney in London with her two sons[10].

She was living at Upper Holloway with two sones (Allan Arthur and Ernest Lory) in 1901[11].

In 1911 she lived at East Finchley with Ernest[12]. The census record notes 6 children, five of whom were still living.

She was buried at Holy Trinity in Finchley on the 15th of September 1911[13].
