Biography

Ann was baptised on 20 April 1772 at All Saints, Martock.[1] Her surname was been transcribed as Hetman (ancestry.com) and *olman (freereg.org.uk).

Ann's parents were recorded on the baptism register as Mary wid & deceased. (The wid is short for widow)

Her mother, widow Mary Northcott, had married the widower Edward Yetman on 4 Nov 1771 at Martock, Somerset, England[2]

There are two possible interpretations of the baptism record. The interpretation that most people have made (or simply just copied into their trees) is that Edward Yetman was her father and he died before her birth.

However no burial records for an Edward Yetman in 1771 or 1772 have been found.

An alternative interpretation is that Ann is the daughter from Mary's previous husband. No burials have been found by the name of Northcott that might indicate when her first husband died.

She married Thomas Sams on 17 September 1795 in Martock, Somerset.

The 1841 Census recorded Ann living Alone with her son Charles at the hamlet of Knowle in the parish of Long Sutton.[3]

Ann was buried on 27 November 1850 at Holy Trinity, Long Sutton. Her age at death as recorded as 79 years and abode as Knowle.[4]
