  • On Wednesday, 22 Sept 1909, in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware, Charles Norman Wishart was born, the 4th of 4 known children born to Eva Nuckolls May, (12 Oct 1869 - 25 June 1955), and James Franklin Wishart, Sr., (6 June 1869 - 24 Nov 1937).

22 April 1910: family is living in Wilmington, Delaware

  • In 1910 the family is living at 706 Delaware Avenue in Wilmington, Ward 7, New Castle, Delaware. The family is prospering and growing. James and Eva have been married for 18 years. James is working as a clerk for DuPont, (in the explosives manuf. industry). Eva has her hands full looking after 2 young children, 6 year old James Junior, 3 year old Harold, and a newborn, Charles Norman. Eva needs help so they hired 20-year-old Laura Miller to manage the domestic chores.

6 Jan 1920: Family has moved to Chicago, Cook County, Illinois

  • In 1920 the family is living on 5100 block of Hyde Park Blvd in Chicago, Ward 6, Cook County, Illinois. The family is prospering. James and Eva have been married for 28 years. James has been promoted. He is employed as an auditing manager, within the accounting department, of DuPont Corporation. Eva is attending to her sons who are now attending private schools. They have hired a domestic servant, 32-year old Ida Newman to manage the domestic chores. Ida is not married and she was born in 1888 in Missouri.

3 April 1930: Family has moved to Asheville, Buncombe County, NC

  • In 1930 the family is living at 33 Mt. Vernon Circle, Ward 9, Asheville, Buncombe, North Carolina. The family is prospering. James and Eva have been married for 38 years. The family owns a radio and a home valued at 14,000. James is once again employed by a railroad company; he is working as a “Traveling Accountant.” All three sons are single and living at home. James Franklin. Junior is employed as an Accountant for Casket Mfg. Company. Their next door neighbor, Margaret and William Donnell, 35 Mt. Vernon Circle, is the manager for Casket Mfg. Company. It is a good bet that he was responsible for getting James F. Jr. his first job after college. Harold and Norman are attending the University of Illinois.

1930 Christmas Holidays

  • “Mrs. James F. Wishart and sons, Mr. Norman Wishart and Mr. Harold Wishart returned to the city Sunday to spend the Christmas holidays at their home at 33 Mount Vernon Circle, Colonial Heights. Mr. Wishart will join them tomorrow for the holidays. Mrs. Wishart and her two sons have been spending the winter at Urbana, Ill., where the latter two have been attending the University of Illinois. During their absence. Mr. and Mrs. James F. Wishart, Jr., are occupying the home of the parents of the former.   • Norman and Lutrelle had only 1 known child, a daughter; her name is Lutrelle Sondra Wishart (Johnson) {Bryner}, (1 Dec 1934 - 3 July 1997).

  • On 24 Nov 1937 James Franklin Wishart, Sr. died. He was 67 years old. The obituary states, “J. F. Wishart, formerly of this city, died yesterday morning at his home, 33 Mt. Vernon Circle, Colonial Place, Asheville, N.C., from a heart attack. A former DuPont Company sales auditor. Mr. Wishart left here about 20 years ago. He had frequently visited this city in recent years. Surviving him are: his wife, Mrs. Eva Wishart nee May, and three sons: J. F. Wishart, Jr., of Tampa, Fla. H. B. Wishart of Gary, Ind. and Norman Wishart of Asheville, N.C. Norman’s mother, Eva Wishart, now aged 70, is living with her son, 30-year-old Norman and his 24-year-old wife, Lutrelle, and their 3-year-old daughter, Sondra.
  • On 12 Jan 1940 Lutrelle A. Wishart is one of several women who are treated to a tea party for their service to Girl Scouts during the past summer. Death & Burial

  • On Monday, 2 Sept 1940, at the age of 31 years, Charles Norman Wishart died. Two weeks before his death, Lutrelle Angel Wishart, had celebrated her 29th birthday. She is now a widow and taking care of their 5-year-old daughter, Lutrelle Sondra. Mrs. Eva Wishart, aged 70, helps as much as she can but will soon depart and go to live with her other son, Harold and his family, in Gary, Indiana.

The marriage took place last February but was not announce until yesterday on account of the bride being a student at Converse College and wishing to hold the wedding as a secret until after commencement. Mrs Wishart arrived from college yesterday and the couple will take up residence at 33 Mt. Vernon Circle.

The marriage took place in Laurens, S.C. last February 4, but was kept a secret until now on account of the fact that the bride is a student at Converse College at Spartanburg, [North Carolina], and wished to finish her year’s school work before the announcement was made. She arrived yesterday following her week’s examinations and Mr. and Mrs. Wishart will be at home at the home of the groom’s parents. The bride attended Randolph Macon Woman’s college at Lynchburg, VA., last year and was a member of Phi Mu sorority. At Converse she became a member of Beta Alpha Tau sorority. Mr. Wishart was graduated last June from the University of Illinois at Champaign with B.S. degree and is now connected with the Halsey & Griffith Book store. He is a member of Theta Upsilon Omega social fraternity and Alpha Kappa Psi professional fraternity.   • According to the medical examiner who signed his North Carolina death certificate the immediate cause of death was due to Melanosarcoma (malignant melanoma), a tumor of comparative rarity usually arising in preexisting masses of pigment bearing cells. The onset and duration of the disease was 1 year. According to the medical notes Norman was at work when he slashed a black mole on his arm, which compelled him to go to the hospital.   • “Norman Wishart” Norman Wishart, 30, formerly of this city, died Monday at his home, 121 Edwin Place, Ashville, N.C., after an illness of about four months. Mr. Wishart was a son of the late J. F. Wishart, former sales auditor with the Dupont Company in this city. The family moved from here about 20 years ago. Mr. Wishart is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lutrella Angell; a daughter, Sandra; his mother, Mrs. J. F. Wishart, all of Ashville, and two brothers, James F. Wishart, Tampa, Fla., and Harold B. Wishart, Gary, Ind. A cousin, Mrs. H. W. Hatton, 2406 Washington Street, this city also survives. The funeral will be from his home tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock. Interment will be in Ashville. Angel, his father-in-law, 121 Edwin place, following an illness of several weeks. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Lewis funeral home. The Rev. W. A. Stanbury will officiate. Burial will be in Lewis Memorial Park .Active pallbearers will be Dr. Norman Huffman, Fulton Glenn, W. H. Morrison, Robert DeVault, Dr. Moultrie Truluck, Douglas McCorkle, Curtis Baldwin and Charles Parker. Born at Wilmington, Del., Mr. Wishart was a graduate of the University of Illinois. He had resided in Asheville for the past 19 years and was connected with the Skyland Motors of Asheville. He was a member of Central Methodist Church.
