Biography

Lorna was the daughter of Lionel St. Clair Winters (1888-1949) and Eva May Bryans (1894-1964). Although she was born in Lethbridge, she spent most of her short life in Calgary (see Henderson Directories below). Lorna's father worked for the CPR in various capacities. After she finished school, Lorna worked as a clerk at different businesses. In 1945 Lorna married Charles Borgens who was the proprietor of the Beehive Confectionery in Bridgeland-Riverside. One assumes that Lorna would have worked there, also. The Borgens had one daughter named Carol. In 1949 Lorna's father died. Then Lorna herself became ill and went to Montreal for treatments. She died in Montreal in 1953 and is buried at Queen's Park Cemetery. ^[1] When her daughter got married in 1967, an aunt made the newspaper announcement because her parents and grandparents had all died by then.^[2]

Mrs. Lorna Borgens

Rev. Dr. G. B. Switzer officiated at the funeral service in Jacques' funeral home today at 2: 45 p.m., for Mrs. Lorna Borgens of 530 15th Ave. N.E., who died Tuesday in a Montreal hospital. Burial was in Queen's Park cemetery.

Mrs. Borgens was born in Lethbridge and came to Calgary as a child. She was a member of Central United Church.

Surviving are her husband Charles; one daughter, Carol; her mother, Mrs. Eva Winter, and her grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Bryans, all of Calgary.

Her father, Lionel St. Clair Winters, died in Calgary in May, 1949.
