Note N362Australian records give Ann's date of birth as 26th July 1826 but the South Petherton records are easy to read and definitely state she was born in 1824. It is likely that as this date (26th July) is her wedding date some confusion has crept in. If she was born in 1826 then she would have been under 21 when she married and so her age would have been recorded in the marriage register. However, her age is recorded as "of age" which means that she was over 21 when she married. It appears that Ann was baptised twice, once on 31st January 1825 and then again on 4th May 1828. Normally this would be evidence of two sisters called Ann, the second being named after the first who had died. However, the date of birth in 1824 is written against the "second" Ann and so this is not possible. Also,there is no record of the burial of the "first" Ann. We must assume they are one and the same person therefore and that, for some reason, she was baptised twice.
