Peter died on 27 October 1918 while at sea.[4] He drowned off the coast of Tangier when the ship on which he was an engineer sank after a collision. The Larchgrove, which belonged to Alexander & Mair of Glasgow, but had been requisitioned by the Admirality during WWI, was carrying a cargo of iron ore from Seville in Spain to Ardrossan in Scotland. The will and inventory show that Peter left enough money for his widow not to be in poverty.[5]
