Biography
Randall D. Wigent, 73, lifelong Reading resident, passed away Tuesday (5/10/11) at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo. He was born March 7, 1938 in Hillsdale, MI, the son of Edward and Ruth (Kriser) Wigent.
Randall graduated from Reading High School in 1956 and served in the US Army. He was a dedicated farmer who implemented his skill and enjoyment of welding in maintaining and repairing his own equipment. Also an active community man, Randall served 40 years on the ASCS Board, on the Board of Review in Reading Township, and belonged to the Reading Jaycees. At the Hillsdale County Community Foundation, he sat on a committee to select recipients of the Harold S. and Lester E. Gardner Memorial Scholarship awarded to deserving students pursuing farming careers. Randall loved playing Santa on 23 Christmas mornings for his grandchildren and many other area children, reluctantly retiring due to ill health.
Randall will be sadly missed by his wife, Esther (Zinser) Wigent, whom he married Aug. 11, 1956 at Fort Leonard Wood, MO; 3 daughters, Cindy (Jeff) Miller of Indianapolis IN and Tulsa OK, Connie (Tom) Condon of Hillsdale and Chris (John) McLemore, Tulsa OK; 1 son, Randy (Lori) Wigent of Reading; 1 brother, Leland (Roberta) Wigent of Hillsdale; 6 grandchildren, Jamie Miller, Randi (Jared) Bignell, Ryan Wigent, Terri Wigent; Tyler Condon and Mallory Condon; 1 great-grandson, Corban Bignell; 3 step-grandchildren, Matt (Amy) McLemore, Angie McLemore, and Molly (Renny) Parra; 5 step-great-grandchildren, Ella & Hudson McLemore, Blythe McLemore, Jacob & Zachariah Parra.
His parents preceded him in death.
