Isabella was born around 1842 in the City of Edinburgh, Parish of St. Cuthbert's, Midlothian, Scotland, however, her birth/baptism wasn't recorded. She is the daughter of James Whitecross and Margaret Duff, who married on the 28 February 1842 at the Parish Church of St. Cuthbert, 5 Lothian Road, in the City of Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland[1][2].

In 1851, Isabella (9) and her brother, James (6) lived with parents Joiner, Journeyman James (30) and Margaret (30) at 7 Bedford Street, in the City of Edinburgh, Parish of St. Cuthbert's, Midlothian, Scotland[3]. However, on the 25 August 1858, Isabella (19) boarded the vessel "John and Lucy" bound for the Colony of Victoria. • [13] Death. CALDOW.— At Perth, Western Australia, on July 22, 1905, Isabella Caldow, (formerly of Inverell.) Aged 61 years[14].
  • [15] NEWS OF THE DAY. Death of Mrs. Caldow, senr. On Saturday last Mr. John Caldow, of Inverell, was advised by wire from Perth of the death of his mother who had passed away that morning in the West Australian capital. The news came as a shock to deceased's relatives in Inverell, for although she had been ailing for a considerable time it was not thought that her life was in danger.
  • She had suffered from an affection of the heart for a long time past. About seven months ago she went under an operation at Perth Hospital, and feeling much better afterwards left with her husband for a trip intending to visit Inverell, but when they reached Melbourne Mrs. Caldow became bad again, and as she could not then undertake the journey by land to Inverell they returned to Perth.
  • Since then her health has varied, and the news now to hand shows that the ailment obtained the mastery. Mrs. Caldow's death removes one who for many years was an esteemed resident of the Inverell district. Tbe family came here from Victoria about 25 years ago and resided for a long while at Dinton Vale. Subsequently Mr. Caldow took over the Half-way Hotel, Swanvale, and after residing there for some years sold out, and took an hotel in Tamworth. Afterwards he went to Perth, and has been there seven years. They have a family of eight, and all (with the exception of Mr. J. Caldow) live in Western Australia where they occupy good positions. The news of Mrs. Caldow's death will be received with regret by many residents of the Inverell district, and her sorrowing family will have the sincerest sympathy of their old friends here in their sad bereavement[16].
