Biography

Janet, daughter of Andrew White & Elizabeth Blaick, was born on 26 April 1781 and baptised on 29 April 1781 in Dalgety, Fife, Scotland.^[1]She passed away about 1851.

Janet married Henry Beveridge and the couple had nine known children.

Research notes

I have added a source for the birth of Janet as this is the birth record for the birth on the date given for the daughter of Andrew Whyte and Elizabeth or Betty Blaike. I have changed the birthplace to the one that matches the record. Originally the birth place was Clackmannan Clackmannanshire. No records in that parish for a birth to parents of these names on that date.

No marriage record as yet found for Janet and Henry but they were married by the time they had their first child David in 1795. The parents of David are confirmed in his death record. This does shed a little uncertainty on the parentage of Janet as the Janet born to Betty and Andrew in 1781 would only be 13 at the time of her marriage and birth of first child. This does seem very young although not totally implausible. However, many Janet Whites were born in Fife in a ten year span that would work for childbearing years of these children. There is no good source linking her to these parents. I have seen many trees on the web that have them as parents. Perhaps someone has a source I have not been able to find.

I also have seen no census data with an age or a death record that would confirm this to be the correct date of birth. The place of death is consistent with the family moving to Stevenston, Ayrshire at some point, I do not know where the date of death comes from. Her children all married in Ayrshire (David the eldest married in 1819) Her youngest daughter Janet gives her birthplace as Kettle Fife on the 1851 Census so we can assume they were still living in Fife in 1815.

DNA Evidence

Whoever her parents are I am fairly confident Hugh White is her brother. 9 DNA matches between Adam-3291and his 4th-6th cousins tested at Ancestry descendants of 3 of Hugh White's children James, William and Hugh.
