Thomas White was born on 8 October 1858 in Ladhope, Roxburghshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, son of Thomas White (~1815 - ) and Isabella (UNKNOWN) White (~1820 - ).

His sister was Catherine (White) McKay (1850 - ).

Research Notes

There is no record of a Thomas White or Whyte being born in Roxburghshire in 1858. According to ScotlandsPeople there is only one Thomas White born in Ladhope, Roxburghshire between 1855 and 2022 and he was born Thomas Forsyth White in 1882 this is highly unlikely to be the person we are looking for. Suggesting that certainly the location provided is incorrect and therefore possibly the date also.

There is a marriage between Thomas White (aged 23) and Isabella Lockie (aged 20) in 1858 in Ladhope, Roxburghshire^[1]. Their first child however was John White born in June 1858 at Ladhope, Roxburghshire and legitimised by their parents marriage in the October of that year^[2]. Therefore they could not have bore the child Thomas White who was allegedly born in September 1858.

The sister attached to Thomas, Catherine (White) McKay (1850 - ) has a mother of Isabella Lekie according to the marriage record. Catherine married in 1869 at the age of 20^[3] suggesting she was born in 1849 which would be some 9 years before her parents married and would mean her mother would only be 11 years old if her parents are the same Thomas White and Isabella Leckie who married in 1858.
