Biography

Goda (Wessex) de Boulogne is a member of the House of Wessex.

Goda or Godgifu was the daughter of Ethelred "the Unready", King of England and his second wife Emma Normandie.^[1][2] Her birth date is uncertain, but her parents married in 1002^[1] so it will have been after that.

Goda married twice. Her first husband was Dreux/Drogo de Mantes,^[3][4] whom she married by 1025.^[2][5] They probably had at least two children:

• Ralph^[5]
• Gauthier^[5]

Drogo died in 1035^[5] while on pilgrimage to the Holy Land.^[4]

In about 1036 Goda married Eustace of Boulogne.^[2][4][6] They had no children.^[4]

The Domesday Book names her as having been formerly in possession of Toddington, Gloucestershire.^[7]

Goda died before 1049, when her second husband married again.^[5] The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography entry for her second husband gives a death date of about 1047.^[3]
