Biography

Bahamas Project
Ann (Watkins) Knowles is part of a Bahamian family.

Ann Watkins was born about 1780. I am not entirely confident that her surname was Watkins. She was the second wife of Samuel Knowles; they married at Christ Church, Nassau, Bahamas 20 October 1800. The couple had six known children together.

Ann Watkins Knowles survived her husband and was mentioned in his 1838 will as follows:

"... devise and bequeath unto my beloved Wife Ann Knowles my present dwelling house and lot with all the outbuildings and furniture to be enjoyed by her during her natural life and at her Death the said dwelling ....

.......Fourthly, I give devise and bequeath unto my children and grandchildren the remaining two thirds of all my real and personal property to be divided in the following manner and form:

Unto my son Marmaduke Knowles one share

Unto my daughter Charlotte Longley one share

Unto my son William Knowles one share

Unto my son Samuel Knowles one share

Unto my son John (Davis) Knowles one share

Unto my daughter Sarah Eliza Knowles one share

Unto my son Joseph N. Knowles one share

Unto my grandson John Oliver Knowles one share

Unto my grandson John Knowles one share

Unto my grandchildren Margaret Ann Sands, Eliza Ann Sands, William Kemp, Robert Bell

and Charles Tinsley Sands one share (children of daughter Mary Ann Knowles by William Robert Bell Sands).

Unto my grandchildren Mary Ann Culmer, Patrick Culmer and Eliza Culmer one share (children of Mary Ann Knowles by Michael Culmer).
