'New York state flag'
Heman Ward was born in New York.

Heman was born in 1822. He married Elizabeth Jane AVERY of Leyden, NY the same year his mother Rebecca NASH WARD died. Their 1st son Charles Rivera WARD was born in 1854 in Florence, AL where Heman was teaching school, probably at the University of North Alabama. It appears that the elder Heman accompanied his son to Alabama and died there in 1854. By 1858 Heman and Jane WARD had moved back to NY since William A. (1858-1900), Edward Everett (1860-1958) and Clarence Hubert (1871-1942) were all born in Boonville, NY.

Marriage of Heman and Jane Avery Ward http://oneida.nygenweb.net/towns/boonville/ledger.html

Died from diptheria at about the same time as his adopted daughter Myrtle, in Boonville, NY in 1884

NOTE: Heman Ward's grandson W. E. Ward's Y-DNA test falls in haplo group R1b and he is a direct male descendant of William Ward (1603-1687).
