William Wain was born in Wortley, Yorkshire, England.

William was born on August 15, 1898, in Wortley, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of William Wain and Elizabeth Ann Jennings. He was baptized on October 4, 1903, in Hayfield, Derbyshire.

William married Annie Brayshaw on June 7, 1919, at St John Church, Ingrow and Hainworth, Yorkshire. It appears the couple had two children. They were enumerated in the 1939 Register residing in Wardle, Lancashire. (Wardle is a village within the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale). There were two redacted entries at address normally indicating still living children. His occupation "Corporation Waterworks Foreman".

Annie died in 1968. William passed away on April 28, 1974. His residence at time of death was 44 Elm Grove, Wardle, Rochedale. His Probate was administered on May 15, 1974, in Manchester.
