Biography

Rebecca was born in 1758 in New Jersey. She married Peter Drake before 1773, when their son Ithamer was born. In the early years of their marriage they may have lived in Maryland, though by 1773 they had settled in what became Washington County, Pennsylvania. By 1798 they had moved further west to Turtle Creek twp, Warren Co, Ohio, where Peter died as a result of an accident while building a house. In 1817 Rebecca married John Brigham in Hamilton Co., Ohio. At the end of her life she was living with her daughter Rebecca, who was married to Joel Judkins, in Highland Co., Ohio. She passed away in 1840. Her son Peter was administrator of her estate, probate in Warren Co., Ohio.

Note: Some genealogies have given Rebecca the maiden name of "Rebe." This writer believes that is a misinterpretation of her signature on a deed dated 25 Nov 1786 in Washington County, Penn. Rebecca signed with her mark, "Rebe," the first 4 letters of her name. /srb
